Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover

This year, I had big plans for Mr. Blue Eyed Yonder’s birthday. We have only one computer at home and when you’re married to a blogger… well, I’ll let you guess who’s on the computer most of the time. He’s always so patience as he waits for me to finish so he can jump on and do his thing – look at espn, check the weather, read the news, etc.
This year I decided to surprise him with his very own ipad – woot woot! But you know me, I couldn’t just wrap it. Nah, that would be too boring. We love to do little quirky things for each other, so I thought I would disguise his ipad to look like a book.

He opened his present and thought he was getting a photo book of Normandy. I made this book jacket to disguise a text book and make it look like a book he might actually receive for a birthday present. He loves photography and he loves France… but if you look real close you will see the author is “A.J. Tsirk Sanoh”, ha! That’s just my name all jumbled up.
I even had a birthday note typed on the inside of the jacket.
As he turned the first page… “You’ve GOT to be kidding me!” Those were his words exactly. (And he had a smile the size of Texas.)
With the help of my awesome co-worker, Reece, we carved out enough pages in this text book for the ipad to fit flush and wrapped it up like a normal present.
Mr. Blue Eyed Yonder was floored to say the least. Now I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s his ipad. {Greedy blogger.} It’s just so bright, shiny and tempting.

Here’s to many more birthdays, many more sneaky surprises and many more happy memories together!

What a great idea! I want to steal it. How did you carve the pages? They are so neat.

Jen – We traced the outline of the ipad with a pencil, then we used an X-acto knife to cut through the pages. We just went several pages deep with each cut until we had enough thickness to cover the ipad. It took a little bit of time, but it was pretty easy to do.
